Announcing a new mental health workshop with young people
We’re delighted to announce that we are working in partnership with the Applied Research Collaboration (ARC), The University of Manchester, as part of our Hidden series. This brand new episode will focus on mental health, as we work with a diverse group of young people with lived experience.
Our programme ‘Hidden’ is about challenging people to walk in another person’s shoes. The programme includes a series of immersive audio experiences where the listener explores another individual’s life, using the listener’s own home as a theatrical backdrop.
“We’re extremely happy to be partnering with ARC on such an important piece of work. We want this work to act as a catalyst for improvement within health and social care, as it helps provide deeper insight in a meaningful and accessible manner.”
Paul Hine, director Made By Mortals.
Like our previous projects, we will collaborate with the young participants to help them create a central character using their lived experience and imagination. They will play a crucial role in developing the script and inspiring the soundtrack alongside a scriptwriter, a drama facilitator, a composer, musician and a sound engineer.
The character they create will act as the eyes and the ears of the story, where listeners of the episode are offered the opportunity to put themselves in their shoes.
Once the episode is written, recorded, and edited, it will be played to a mixed audience, including: parents and guardians of young people with experience of mental health illnesses; people who work with young people in education and community settings; and practitioners who work in health and social care. After this, a writer will then capture their emotional response to the piece, followed by their professional ideas. The writer will then curate these insights them into a monologue, which will be performed alongside the immersive audio piece during Mental Health Awareness Week, with the support of ARC.
